William was KIA onboard the Cargo Vessel SS-Steel Navigator when it was torpedoed by an German U-Boat, on Oct. 19, 1942, and he is honored with the Purple Heart, Good Combat Ribbon, Marine Corps Good Conduct Medal, Marine Corps Expeditionary Medal, American Campaign Medal, Navy & Marine Corps Presidential Unit Citation, European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal ,WW II Victory Medal.
And he is buried at Cambridge American Cemetery and Memorial, Coton,
South Cambridgeshire District, Cambridgeshire, England.
