Lon Jackman Jr. was a Co Pilot (B-17) in the 427th Bomber Squadron.

Lon was KIA on a Bomb Mission to Bremen Germany and crashed, was hit by a shell in his stomach, then his oxygen mask caught fire and took his own life on Dec. 20, 1943, and he is honored with an Air Medal, Purple Heart, Good Conduct Medal, American Campaign Medal, Army Presidential Unit Citation, European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal, WW II Victory Medal.

Lon is buried at Netherlands American Cemetery and Memorial, Margraten, Eijsden-Margraten, Limburg, Netherlands.

Shot down 20 December 1943, The only Crew-member (Lon E. Jackman Jr.)  Killed in Action (KIA), Everyone bailed out and became POW.
