William was KIA when the USS Sangamon was attacked by a kamikaze, who crashed into the center of the flight deck on May 4, 1945, he is honored with a Purple Heart, Good Conduct Medal, Expeditionary Medal, American Campaign Medal, Distinguished Unit Citation, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal, WW II Victory Medal.

 

William is buried/mentioned at Honolulu Memorial, Honolulu County, Hawaii U.S.A.
