Fred was KIA when it sunk during a Japanese Kamikaze attacked on the ship, on Aug. 18, 1943, he  is honored with a Purple Heart, Combat Action Ribbon, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal and the WWII Victory Medal.

 

Fred is buried/mentioned at Honolulu Memorial, Honolulu, Honolulu County, Hawaii, USA.
