Curtis was KIA  when the ship and the Escorts were attacked by several Japanese planes near Australia, on Feb. 27, 1942, he is honored with a  Purple Heart, Combat Action Ribbon, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal and the WWII Victory Medal.

 

Curtis is buried/mentioned at Manila American Cemetery and Memorial  Manila, Metro Manila, National Capital Region, Philippines.
