Alfred died when (story) the ship went for anchor in Buckner Bay a attack of a Kaitan (suicide sub) on July 22, 1945, Seaman First Class Alfred U. Abruzzese is honored with a  Combat Action Ribbon, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal and the WWII Victory Medal.

 

 Alfred is buried/mentioned at Manila American Cemetery and Memorial  Manila, Metro Manila, National Capital Region, Philippines.
