Robert was KIA when the ship was attacked by a Japanese aircraft and Sunk at Guadalcanal on Aug. 9, 1942, Seaman Second Class Robert Abegg is honored with a  Purple Heart, Combat Action Ribbon, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal and the WWII Victory Medal.

 

Robert is buried/mentioned at Manila American Cemetery and Memorial  Manila, Metro Manila, National Capital Region, Philippines.
