Lonnie was KIA when the USS Belleau Wood was on a Patrol she shot a Kamikaze Plane who fell on the Flight deck causing fire and explosions, lot of crewmembers lost their lives on Oct. 30 1944, he is honored with a Purple Heart, Combat Action Ribbon, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal, WW II Victory Medal.

 

Lonnie is buried/mentioned at Manila American Cemetery and Memorial Manila, metro Manila, National Capital Region, Philippines.
