Franklin enlisted the service in New York on Aug. 27, 1940 with service number # 2342679.

 

Franklin was KIA when the USS Gwin sunk at the Battle of Kolombangara (part of the Solomons Islands), on July 13, 1943, he is honored with a Purple Heart, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal and the WWII Victory Medal.

 

Franklin is buried/mentioned at Manila American Cemetery and Memorial  Manila, Metro Manila, National Capital Region, Philippines.
