SS Paul Hamilton

On April 2, 1944 the SS Paul Hamilton (Libertyship) left as part of a Convoy and carrying Supplies and Men from the 485th Bomber Group to Italy, but on April 20, 1944 the Convoy was attacked by the German off the Algerian Coast, the SS Paul Hamilton was struck by an Aerial Torpedo and blew up, off the 580 Men only 1 survived.

They are remembered at the Wall of Missing at Carthage Cemetery.

James was born in 1922 in Indiana.

Mother, Margaret. (Krull) Adams.

Stepmother, Jeanne (Swan) Adams.

Sisters, Margaret J. Adams.

Brother, Norbet E. Adams.

James entered  the service from Indianapolis, Indiana in Jan. 21, 1943 with service number # 35582823.

James O. Adams was a Co Pilot B-17 in the 813th Bomber Squadron.

James was KIA when the SS Paul Hamilton that transported them was bombed by a German Junker Ju 88 with an aerial torpedo, on April 20, 1944, and he is honored with the Purple Heart, Good Conduct Medal, American Campaign Medal, Navy & Marine Presidential Unit Citation, European, African, Middle Eastern Campaign Medal, WW II Victory Medal.

James is buried/Mentioned at North Africa American Cemetery and Memorial, Carthage, Tunis, Tunisia.
