Byron was KIA when the plane was heavenly damaged by FLAK over the target, when the plane went back to England and the plane went into a crash, Byron bailed out but his chute didn’t open, on July 5, 1944 and he is honored with a Purple Heart, Good Conduct Medal, American Campaign Medal, European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal, WWII Victory Medal.

Byron is buried/mentioned at Cambridge American Cemetery and Memorial, Coton, South Cambridgeshire District, Cambridgeshire, England.
