Frederick was KIA during the Battle of Guadacanal when the ship sunk after a hit by a Torpedo fired by the Japanese Destroyer Akatsuki and friendly fire , on Nov. 13, 1942, he is honored with a Purple Heart, Combat Action Ribbon, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal and the WWII Victory Medal.

 

Frederick is buried/mentioned at Manila American Cemetery and Memorial  Manila, Metro Manila, National Capital Region, Philippines.
